Who You Starin' At?!?!?

Another Easter candy story. My favorite candy at Easter is hollow chocolate bunnies. That first bite of the ear is just heaven. When I was a kid, I always asked for one, but always managed to get jelly beans and whatever else was on sale at the time.

One year when I was in my early 20's, we were at my Mom's house and just finishing dinner. The kids were all playing with their baskets and eating their candy. Suddenly, my mom jumped up from the table and said, "Oh, dammit!" Then she ran outside. We had no clue what was going on, but a couple of minutes whe came back in the house with a pink and yellow box and a frustrated grin on her face. Apparently she had decided to buy me the much-wanted hollow chocolate bunny. And she bought the biggest one she could find - about a foot tall.

Mind you, we lived in Tucson which gets pretty danged hot by Easter. And she had bought the bunny a couple of days before, but forgot it in the trunk of her car. There in that festive little box, was a huge solid puddle of chocolate with these two soulful eyes looking up at me. Hollow no more. Little bunny looked so sad. We took him out of the box, gently pried the eyes off so we couldn't see his gloom, and proceeded to get an ice pick to break the "bunny" into pieces.

No hollow ears to bit off that year, but a whole lot of laughter and a pretty cool memory.

How very funny! And yes, I remember some chocolate disasters in the trunk of my car as well in Tucson. =(

Hot and Easter aren't two words I put together from childhood Easters.

I love that story. Memories like that are the greatest.
