All we wanted was a pound of coffee!
Ed and I are so totally NOT cool. Yesterday we went out to buy a gift for one of his clients who had just closed on their new house. They like Peet's Coffee. So we headed to Peets to buy a pound of coffee and some biscotti as part of their gift basket. We looked around the store a bit and didn't see any bags of coffee so asked the guy behind the counter.
Us: We need a pound of coffee.
Him: What blend do you want?
Us: Uh, what's a good one?
Him: We have a Major Dickinson (or something like that), that is full-bodied and smooth, with a silky finish, blah, blah, blah
Us: Yeah, that sounds good. We'll take a pound of that.
Him: Whole beans or ground
Us: [not knowing if they have a grinder] Go ahead and grind it
Him: What kind of grind?
Us: Um, I don't know, smaller than a whole bean for sure.
Him: We have course, fine, superfine, blah, blah, blah
Us: Oh, for heaven's sake, we'll just take the whole beans [if they don't have a grinder, they'll have to get one!]
We left the store feeling a bit naive. Then headed to Starbucks where we know the one or two drinks that we like and have learned to order with confidence!

I've been to Peet's before. They take their coffee very seriously, don't they? :)
If it's used in a regular drip coffee make, I always get the finest grind on the medium level. It seems that I read that somewhere. Good old Starbucks is a place where coffee is "uncomplicated!"
I wouldn't have chosen Starbucks to clear my head in that situation..but it's funny ;)
Jeff always goes to Peet's for our coffee because they are the only ones who know how to do the coarse grind for our Toddy's. but then, Jeff is a coffee snob. ;)
thats why I drink tea. you put a bag in some hot water and voila, you have a drink. no muss, no fuss
