Weekend at Babushka's

My grandkids just went home. We had them with us overnight so Jenni and Jeff could have some quiet time - you know, actually eat a meal while it's hot, be able to talk without interruption for more than five minutes, spend time in a store without ever needing to see the restroom - all those things parents forget they ever had!

It's always such a kick having Vika and Eamon at our house. They are so energetic, funny, and loving. Vika definitely takes after her parents with her love of photography and her "staging" of photos. She pretty much wore out the battery in my camera! Here is a self-portrait, and a photo of a jar of crocheted oreos my mother made over 20 years ago.

My father-in-law, Clyde, came over for dinner and Eamon sat next to him while we ate. When Ed gave his dad anything - water refill, napkin, more pasta- Eamon would warn, "Say, 'thank you' or they'll take it away!" And he was very serious about it. Apparently that's the rule around their house!

After dinner, they asked Clyde to watch Dora the Explorer with them. I was getting their bed ready and I could hear the kids, Clyde and Ed singing "I'm the map, I'm the map, yada, yada, yada". Clyde loved it. It's been a rough month for him - my mother-in-law passed away in January, he had a car accident two weeks later (he's fine, car's gone), and this week he had to put his dog to sleep. Vika and Eamon make him laugh and are very affectionate with him. That's a good thing. They have no idea what a difference they've made in all of our lives.

Being a grandmother is the best thing going. Of course, after taking two kids to the playground, giving them a bath, reading stories, riding bikes, answering a million questions - the second best thing is the nap you take after they go home!!!

Thanks for having the kids over this weekend! Vika and Eamon loved hanging at your house and are already asking when they can go back (does next weekend work for you?). :)
