Make my bed and light the light, I'll arrive late tonight, blackbird, bye, bye

For the past couple of days I've been going through all my photos and scanning good ones of my dad. Jenni is going to put together a video for his memorial service on December 2nd. She does an amazing job with videos so I'm really happy that she will have the time to do this for us. We're going to use three songs: Chicago by Frank Sinatra - because Dad loved his home town of Chicago and totally loved Frank Sinatra. Then My Blue Heaven which I wrote about in a previous post. And finally Bye, Bye Blackbird which was one of his favorites. Any time he would hear it he'd start snapping his fingers and singing. Even my kids always smile when they hear that song and say, "Hey, that's Gramps song!"

I have photos that I took from my Mom's house when she passed away, plus boxes of photos that I've taken over the last gazillion years, and all my digital photos from the past four years. I was concerned that it would make me sad to go through all these and see my Dad at various stages of his life. But it hasn't. If anything, it's made me happy about all the good times we had and has brought back some wonderful memories. So I thought I'd share some of my favorite photos.

Your dad seemed like the kind of guy who embraced and loved life. What a wonderful way that you and Jenni are working on for his tribute!

I can see a great love of life that just exudes from him in his pictures. And I can't help but adore any grownup that would ride a tricycle! You're dad's a treasure. :-)

I am sure it will be a beautiful tribute. I adore stories of your Dad, my own Dad died when I was a child and my Grandfathers before I was 2, so it is really nice to share in your history.

I love all the pics you've put up. I lost my grand parents three years back. I wrote a post about their life a few weeks after it. It almost scares me sometimes when I cant recall little details about them.
There could be no better way to keep them alive, than by writing about them.
take care...
