And we were all set to go over in a barrel

Several years ago I visited Niagara Falls with he-who-shall-not-be-named. Didn't like the company, but the falls were spectacular.

Ed has never been there and we've talked about going. Three years ago we actually got a timeshare close to the falls, had enough miles for free airfare, rented a car, made all kinds of plans. Two weeks before we were to go my dad changed the date for his back surgery and we weren't comfortable being up there while he was in the hospital. So we cancelled the trip and unwound everything.

But then we got a second chance! Came across a great New Years Eve deal with the Marriott Hotel up there - room on the 32nd floor overlooking the falls. Dinner, dancing, and champagne toast for New Years Eve, breakfast the next morning. So we again used our airmiles for tickets, booked the room, booked the car, bought some cold weather gear.

Now Ed's dad is in the hospital - second time in a week. He's weak, depressed, and at this point we don't know how long he'll be in there or what will happen when he's discharged. Chances are he won't be able to live alone anymore so we're on the path to help him adjust to being in an assisted living place. No way can we take four days off in the three weeks and be that far from home or from him.

So, again, we cancel and unwind the trip! My gut feeling - the universe doesn't want us to go to Niagara Falls. I think I'll listen this time.

That's too bad about Ed's dad. I hope everything works out.
You're trip will happen... when the right time comes.

I think you may be right about the Falls. I’ve never been before either. Sorry to hear about Ed’s father. It’s so difficult with aging parents and making sure they get proper care.
