And the adventure continues

We made it back to Italy yesterday. The train rides here (13 hours worth) were a bit disturbing - felt like refugees in a B movie. But they were on time and we made it. As soon as we got to the room, we were both whipped. I laid down on the bed and immediately fell asleep. Ed did some puttering around and them he, too, fell asleep. Slept for three hours. Our room is right on the water so we heard the sound of the waves throughout our nap - along with the sounds of a tractor backing up, the train, kids playing, vespas roaring by. But still we slept.

Finally we got up and got dressed to go get some dinner. That was when the fun started. I tried to open the door to the room and nothing. Now some of these doors are a bit tricky so I tried slowely turning the lock ( kind of like turning the combination on a safe). But still no good. Ed, being the man, said "Want me to help?" "Sure, knock yourself out."

He strutted to the door in that manly I-can-fix-this way and tried the lock. Nothing. Turned the knob different ways. Nothing. By this time we had figured out that we in our stupor we left the key in the lock outside and the door was jammed. Suddenly the room got much smaller! We opened the window and I told Ed he might have to climb out and get help. He looked at me with fear in his eyes. We tried the door again. Nothing. Decided to call down to the desk but they don't have a "Front Desk" button on Italian phones. Couldn't find the phone number. Didn't know what to do. Tried the door again. I guess we could have pulled the emergency chain in the bathroom but that seemed a bit extreme.

Finally after a little more door rattling the neighbors came out of their room, heard us, turned the key and opened the door. There we stood, free but a bit embarassed. Hopefully today will not have any more such surprises!

I bet you gave your neighbors a good story to pass on to friends and relatives when they get home! Too funny!
