Well, howdy, there

This is what I'm greeted by in my back yard each morning. A HUGE sunflower. This photo was a few days ago and the flower is even bigger now. It stands tall and proud against the blue sky and brings a smile to the face.

We planted a garden in a narrow strip in the back yard. The arrangement came out of some magazine that Ed found and recommended sunflowers along the back of the garden. Of course, being novice farmers we had no idea how big zucchini plants get so much of the rest of the garden is overshadowed by the Z plant with leaves about a foot wide. But, it's been fun. We've had lots of zucchini, sugar snap peas, tomatoes starting to ripen, herbs and peppers.

But the sunflower is my favorite. There will definitely be more of them planted next year.

I've always loved them, but never grown any as an adult. My parents always had them in their garden and one year they were 6 feet tall.

What a beautiful photo!

I love it. I think it is one of the happiest flowers of them all. Some people call them weeds(my mother) but I think they are gorgeous. Yes plant a ton...buy some sunflower seeds an spit them off the back porch for the fun of it and call it planting flowers! I am very impressed by the photo, very vibrant. :)N

Ohhhhhh...the sunflower! I remember when I was a kid, I used to try to find sunflower seeds to eat off the sunflower plant!!! I'd dig until my fingers were all sticky and gooey! Never found one!

This is so pretty it doesn't look real! The colors are stunning! That's so funny about the zucchini. I guess you'll be giving it away right and left.
