Grocery Stores Blues

Had to stop at Safeway today to get a few things. Got in the 15 or less quick check line. The guy behind me was whistling the first eight bars of Lady of Spain - through his teeth. Not the usual lip pucker whistle. Oh, no - just the blowing through the teeth whistle. And not the whole song which, although it sounds better on my cousin's accordion, would at least have been tolerable. Nope - just the first eight bars - over and over.

The woman in front of me had the maximum limit of items. The checker rang her up and said, "that will be thirty dollars and 45 cents." At that point in time the woman put her purse on the counter and began looking through it for her checkbook. Finally found it and proceeded to write the check. "How much is that again?" she asked. The checker told her. She finished the check and then wrote the information in the check register before tearing the check out and handing it to the cashier. Then she had to once again go through her purse to pull our her driver's license for ID. Now, this is one of my primary pet peeves. Did she not know she would have to pay for the groceries? Was this a surprise to her?? Couldn't she have written the check out except for the amount and had it ready for the checker? Or at least have it in her hand and ready to go? Has she never been to a store before?!?!? Has she never heard of a debit card? mean really.

And all the while the guy kept whistling Lady of Spain.

If only I didn't need those mushrooms.......

I either use cash or my credit card (which I pay off in full at the end of the month). I also love the self checkout line when people stand and stare at the machine without a clue as what to do.
