I coulda been sent "up the river"

Last night we headed to Costco for a roasted chicken (this has become our favorite meal!!). Had to make another stop first, there was a police car in the way, Ed asked me if he should try to out run him. Yeah, great plan.

Which led me to tell him about my wild (!!) youth and the day I outran a cop. I was in my sophomore year at the U of A in Tucson. I lived on the other side of town so had to drive in each day. On this particular day I had a mid-term and was running late. So I bolted down Speedway, turned on Warren and headed to my usual parking spot which was right behind the Newman Catholic Center where I hung out. As I made the turn I was going a bit fast and suddenly saw a police car make the turn, too, and put his red flashing lights on. Oh, crap! I did NOT have time to get stopped for a ticket. Plus my mom would kill me. So I made a quick right turn, then another left, then a right - whatever. But I managed to pull into the parking lot and hide my car in the back. I got out of the car with my heart pounding. I just ran away from the police!!

I got to the corner and there was the police car, lights still flashing, and the officer looking both ways to find that dumb blonde in the Ford Falcon. I actually had to cross the street in front of him and my legs were shaking. But he hadn't actually seen me in the car so I was safe. There I was, in my little madras shirt and navy blue wrap-around skirt brazenly escaping the long arm of the law.
